Letter of Intent
Definition
A non-binding document that gives guidance to family and caregivers about your wishes for personal items, family history, and care preferences.
A letter of intent supplements binding legal documents (will, trust, POA). It can include funeral preferences, distribution of sentimental items, family stories, password locations, and care instructions for a dependent with special needs.
It's not legally binding, but it prevents disputes and preserves what matters to the person.
