CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community)

Definition
A senior community that provides independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing on a single campus, so residents can stay as their needs change.

CCRCs (also called Life Plan Communities) charge a sizable entrance fee — often $100,000 to $1,000,000+ — plus monthly fees, in exchange for a guarantee of continuing care across levels. They're best for healthy seniors planning ahead, not for those already in crisis.

The four contract types (Type A, B, C, and rental) trade upfront cost for long-term cost certainty. Type A is the most expensive upfront but caps future costs.
